Summer tips for Skin from Kaya Skin Clinic

26 07 2008

Our Kaya Skin Clinic doctors have some tips to share:

The Mantra is to Moisturize

To layer ourselves with a good water-based moisturizer is the most important part of the beauty regime during this season.  Our skins tend to lose its colour in the summer.

Besides using a good moisturizer, one must splash one’s face gently with water at least 20 times a day. Avoid using very hot or cold water on your skin which can cause fine veins to appear on your face.  Steaming ones face is another good idea to release the dirt. For dry skin, it is recommended to steam five minutes in a day and for oily skin for ten minutes.  The last and not the least after steaming, a tissue should be used to dry ones face and moisturize.  Please keep in mind that moisturizers should be used to damp the skin. This helps in sealing the water which results in helping the skin to hold the moisture better.

There are lots of ways to keep dryness at bay and hydration is the answer:

•  To drink lots of water: it is recommended  that women should ideally drink 8-10 cups of water and men drink 10 to 12 to avoid dehydration
•  It also recommended to eat low-fat dairy products such as skim milk, yogurt and cottage cheese as calcium is lost through sweating
• To beat the effects of heat on our bodies, one must consume fruits like raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries, which are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C and foods which are strong in protein, in the form of lean meats, beans, nuts, and seeds.
• To shield one’s back from the sweltering heat; always wear cottons garments rather than synthetics.
• For a quick skin boost in the sun, always carry a misting spray for the face and body for a quick cool off.
• Incase of feet wear, flip-flops and strappy sandals are definitely the better choice over closed shoes. As we are aware the feet that don’t breath cause to stink and develop heat rash.
• Carry a  good pair of sunglasses
• It is recommended to stay indoors and avoid the afternoon sun.

Since a lot of people will be travelling in August we have asked our kaya skin experts to give us more dope how to take care of our skin while travelling. We promise to get back with a few tips soon.

OWA Seeb & KR work together to set up a playpen

15 07 2008

Guess what the swirling mass of colours is in the picture? Its the play pen equipment that has been relocated from Pizza Hut MBD, and set up at the Omani Women’s Association Seeb for the tiny tots to jump around in, with gay abandon!

With installation help from its Special Projects Division, Khimji Ramdas, which has been working with OWA on other projects as well, took a call when renovating its Pizza Hut outlet and decided to offer to set up the playground for the association. The smiles and whoops of joy of those little angels make all the efforts worth it!
