Emerging Opportunities in the Private Sector

26 07 2009

IMG_0029Mr. Pankaj Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas recently presented a paper on the theme “Emerging Opportunities in the Private Sector” at the Oman Exhibition Centre, Seeb on 22 July 2009. He converged on important topics including meeting the expectation divide between the employer and the employee.

  • About the Oman job market, he said, “Omani job market has seen a positive trend over a last few years; private sector is gaining popularity compared to public sector in arenas of Information Technology and Communications.  About 50% of the National vacancies go unfilled for lack of qualified professionals. In the private sector, Tourism and Retail are two booming industries that get adequate opportunities for Nationals.
    • About Pre-employment training & internship projects, he said, Employers recognize the quality of Education and Training. For the competitive edge candidates entering the job market, should have pre-employment training. The expectation gap between prospective employee and employer is widening, thus, large corporate and Educational institutions should tie-up to enable student community to complete internship projects, that go hand in hand with the course curriculum.

CARAN d’ACHE Writing Instruments and Accessories – Switzerland

26 07 2009

skf6EPerles de Caran d’Ache, the Harvest Collection

It is no accident that Fine Writing and Fine Jewellery come together in the creations of Caran d’Ache.

They are beautiful objects that excite the emotions, icons of elegance, sensuality and rarity. The time and complexity they involve is forgotten in the pleasure of creating something very special. Here, it is a unique tribute to timeless yet contemporary femininity: the Harvest Collection of writing instruments with a line of small leatherware and refined desk accessories.

The concept arose out of the material itself, slowly forming in the designer’s mind then turning into the superb instruments that honour one of nature’s exceptional treasures: the Akoya pearl.

Serve 4 | Preparation Time: 15 Minutes | Refrigeration: 1 hour

Ingredients needed for the Recipe |

1 packet of “cigarette” biscuits

For the filling:

20 cal of milk                                                                      15 g of flour

50 g of granulated sugar                                                15 g of corn flour

2 eggs                                                                    1 very strong espresso or 1 tbsp of coffee extract

30 g of shelled unsalted pistachios                           30 g of candied ginger

STEP BY STEP:

Step 1:  Heat the milk in a small saucepan.

Step 2: At the same time, use an electric mixer to beat the eggs with the sugar, coffee, flour, and corn flour, until the mixture becomes white.

Step 3: Slowly, pour in the hot milk, continuing to beat the mixture. Next, place the mixture in a saucepan on the stove, and let it heat for about 5 minutes while stirring with a wooden spoon, until it thickens.

Step 4: Let the mixture cool.

Step 5: Chop the pistachios and candied ginger roughly and add them to the cooling cream. Let it cool in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

Step 6: Pour the cream into a piping bag and fill the hole in each cigarette biscuit with cream.

TIPS:

You may prepare the cream the night before serving, but do not fill the cigarettes biscuits until just before serving, so that the cream does not soften the biscuits.

You should try serving this treat to children with creamy hot chocolate too.

5 07 2009

Dr.-Calvin-Allen123

It was the moment of glory and pride for the Indian community in Oman when Dr. Calvin Allen narrated the rarefied chronicle of Three Centuries of Indian contributions to Omani Economic and Social Development in a lecture series held at the India Embassy auditorium in Muscat, Oman.

Dr. Calvin Allen, The Associate Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of history at Shenandoah University, USA, spoke about “The economic characteristics that defined Indian commercial houses in Muscat.” He summarized on how the Indian commercial communities contributed in reshaping Oman and its markets in the 19th, 20th and 21 Centuries.

Mentioning the exemplary case studies of how the Indian merchant community nurtured in the economy of Oman, he brought about The Khimji Ramdas Story and its 139 years of heritage.

As quoted in a leading daily news paper:

“Dr. Calvin Allen has mentioned The Khimji Ramdas story as a case study. In a nutshell, he mentioned that this community often speaks of “Prestige first Money later”. Which means “Wealth and Success are secondary to Reputation and Honour”. This is the key to their success and the trust they have built over the years in Oman in addition to a strong sense of community solidarity.”
