Mr. Pankaj Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas recently presented a paper on the theme “Emerging Opportunities in the Private Sector” at the Oman Exhibition Centre, Seeb on 22 July 2009. He converged on important topics including meeting the expectation divide between the employer and the employee.
- About the Oman job market, he said, “Omani job market has seen a positive trend over a last few years; private sector is gaining popularity compared to public sector in arenas of Information Technology and Communications. About 50% of the National vacancies go unfilled for lack of qualified professionals. In the private sector, Tourism and Retail are two booming industries that get adequate opportunities for Nationals.
- About Pre-employment training & internship projects, he said, Employers recognize the quality of Education and Training. For the competitive edge candidates entering the job market, should have pre-employment training. The expectation gap between prospective employee and employer is widening, thus, large corporate and Educational institutions should tie-up to enable student community to complete internship projects, that go hand in hand with the course curriculum.

Mr. Ali Al Abri from the Ministry of Higher education chaired this seminar. Around 120 Diploma and Higher Education students including parents of Hi-School students actively participated during the Two hour long interactive seminar. This event was organized by Khimji’s Training Institute with the able support of the Ministry of Higher Education, Oman.
